Laurence Davies left the RPO in 2018 having been Principal Horn for ten years, a position he held for the previous ten years with the Philharmonia Orchestra. In these positions, and as guest Principal with the LSO, LPO and CBSO, he has worked with many of the world’s leading conductors and musicians.

He has frequently been invited to perform as concerto soloist particularly in Mozart’s ever-popular 4th horn concerto. He can also be heard on the celebrated Deutsche Grammophon recording of Schumann’s Konzertstuck for four horns and orchestra with Christian Thielemann and the Philharmonia.

He has performed Benjamin Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings with several of the UK’s most renowned tenors and has performed Richard Strauss’ 1st horn concerto on several occasions, in the UK and abroad.

In addition to orchestral playing, Laurence is an experienced chamber musician performing with the RPO and Philharmonia’s ensembles and with such established groups as the Nash Ensemble and Britten Sinfonia.

In 2006 Laurence was invited to become part of an international faculty of leading players from Canada, the USA and Europe establishing new summer music academies in China and South Korea. In January 2019, he was at the Cartagena International Music Festival in Columbia, giving masterclasses and coaching the horn section of the Festival Orchestra as well as performing with the Philharmonia.

Laurence can be heard on many film and television scores including, recently, Mission Impossible: Fallout, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Mary Poppins Returns, Aladdin, Dumbo and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
